The\u00a0<\/span>ICOM Award\u00a0<\/span><\/i>is the first global award that recognises innovative initiatives<\/span>
\nand exemplary museum practices in sustainable development. It is also the first award that ICOM addresses to all its members.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In line with ICOM\u2019s\u00a0<\/span>2019 Kyoto Resolution<\/span><\/i><\/a>\u00a0On sustainability and the implementation of Agenda 2030, Transforming our World<\/span><\/i>\u00a0and the<\/span>\u00a0ICOM Strategic plan<\/span><\/i><\/a>, the ICOM Award contributes to the strengthening of ICOM\u2019s engagement towards sustainable development. T<\/span>he award presents itself as a learning opportunity for museum professionals and the ICOM Network.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

ICOM, as a global organisation, aims to demonstrate the various ways in which the museum sector contributes to sustainable development; and inspire museums and museum professionals everywhere in the world to begin or strengthen their efforts for sustainable development in practice.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Furthermore, ICOM aims to serve as a catalyst for collective action, encouraging all ICOM Bodies (National and International Committees, Regional Alliances, and Affiliated Organisations) to play an active role in promoting sustainable development practices within the museum community. In this way, ICOM is launching a groundbreaking initiative that brings together all its bodies in a united front for sustainable development.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Through this initiative, ICOM reinforces its commitment to Agenda 2030 and beyond by being at the forefront of change within the museum sector and inspires an accelerated development of sustainable practices leading to long-term changes for the museum sector and our common future.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The ICOM Award receives entries, which are judged by an international jury on the basis of the five dimensions of Agenda 2030 and the Sustainable Development Goals, namely the 5 P\u2019s: People, Planet, Prosperity, Peace and Partnership. The ICOM Award ceremony will take place at the ICOM 27<\/span>th<\/span>\u00a0General Conference in 2025 in Dubai.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

THE APPLICATION<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

Who can apply?<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Museums that are ICOM Members in good standing for the years 2023 and 2024 can apply for the Award.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

If you are not a member:<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

If a museum is not yet an ICOM Member and belongs to\u00a0<\/span>Categories 1 and 2<\/span><\/b>\u00a0(see the\u00a0<\/span>ICOM Membership grid<\/span><\/a>), the museum can first apply for\u00a0<\/span>institutional membership<\/span>\u00a0in its own country to its National Committee. Once the membership application has been approved by its National Committee, it can be attached to the application for the Award together with the receipt of the first membership fee payment. If a museum is not an ICOM Institutional Member and if the museum belongs to\u00a0<\/span>Categories 3, 4 and 5<\/span><\/b>\u00a0(see the\u00a0<\/span>ICOM Membership grid<\/span><\/a>), an ICOM Individual Member can apply for the Award. In that case, it must be done on behalf of the museum where they work, attaching a\u00a0<\/span>Letter of Support\u00a0<\/span><\/i>from the institution.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Who\u00a0<\/span>cannot<\/span><\/b>\u00a0apply:<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

ICOM Individual Members in\u00a0<\/span>Categories 1 and 2.<\/span><\/i>
\nICOM\u00a0<\/span>I<\/span>ndividual Members in Categories\u00a0<\/span>3, 4 and 5\u00a0<\/span><\/i>without the support of the museum where they work.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Application process<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Call for applications will be open from March to September 2024.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The project applicants (referred to as \u201cCandidates\u201d) shall send their applications to the ICOM Secretariat* together with an endorsement (see endorsement process below) from the\u00a0<\/span>ICOM Bodies (National Committees, International Committees, Regional Alliances or Affiliated Organisations).<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

*The online application form will be available on ICOM\u2019s website when the call is launched.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

SELECTION AND EVALUATION PROCESS<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

    \n
  1. The applications are sent to the ICOM Secretariat with an endorsement from the\u00a0<\/span>ICOM Bodies (National and International Committees, Regional Alliances, and Affiliated Organisations).<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. The ICOM Secretariat carries out verification to ensure that Candidates are eligible and provides the list of eligible projects to the Jury for examination.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. \u00a0The Jury makes a first selection, a\u00a0<\/span>Longlist<\/span><\/i>, from the list of eligible projects.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
  4. After further examination, the Jury provides a\u00a0<\/span>Shortlist<\/span><\/i>\u00a0of projects.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
  5. The Jury makes a selection of three (3) final Candidates, the\u00a0<\/span>Award finalists<\/span><\/i>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
  6. The Winner is announced at the Dubai General Conference in 2025, during the Award Ceremony.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    ENDORSEMENT PROCESS<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

    Each of the\u00a0<\/span>ICOM Bodies (National and International Committees, Regional Alliances, Affiliated Organisations)\u00a0<\/span>who have taken part in an online Capacity Building session (see below) organised by the ICOM Secretariat can endorse applications. A template for the award endorsement letter will be provided by the ICOM Secretariat to the ICOM Bodies. Potential Candidates can contact the eligible ICOM Bodies listed on the ICOM member space for an endorsement. To manage the endorsement process, each of the ICOM Bodies shall appoint a Board member who shall be the\u00a0<\/span>reference person<\/span><\/b>\u00a0for the award endorsement process.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    \n

    CAPACITY BUILDING<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

    The\u00a0<\/span>ICOM Award for Sustainable Development Practice in Museums<\/span><\/i>\u00a0aims to create learning opportunities that are available to the ICOM network. A programme of capacity-building sessions will be organised for the\u00a0<\/span>ICOM Bodies (National and International Committees, Regional Alliances, Affiliated Organisations)\u00a0<\/span>as well as interested Candidates to have a common understanding of the ICOM Award, Agenda 2030, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and Sustainable Development. The idea is to encourage well-developed proposals in shared understanding and to empower ICOM Members as actors in sustainable development.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    For National and International Committees, Regional Alliances and Affiliated Organisations (ICOM Bodies):<\/span><\/b>
    \n<\/span>13<\/span>th<\/span>\u00a0of February: 11:30 \u2013 13:00 CET<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>or\u00a0<\/span>14<\/span>th<\/span>\u00a0February 2024: 16:00 \u2013 17:30 CET<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    For interested Candidates:<\/span><\/b>
    \n<\/span>20<\/span>th<\/span>\u00a0of February: 11:30 \u2013 13:00 CET<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>or\u00a0<\/span>21<\/span>st<\/span>\u00a0February 2024: 16:00 \u2013 17:30 CET<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    The capacity-building sessions are developed in partnership with ICCROM (International Centre for the Study of the Preservation and Restoration of Cultural Property) and Curating Tomorrow.<\/span><\/i>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    THE JURY<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

    A Jury consisting of\u00a0<\/span>seven (7)\u00a0<\/span><\/b>members will carry out the selection, chaired by the Chair of ICOM SUSTAIN, the International Committee on Museums and Sustainable Development.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
