Topic: Heritage Resilience: Safeguarding Cultural Legacy in Crisis Zones

Dates: 25-26-27 November 2024 (Tbilisi)

This training series is tailored to enhance the skills of museum and cultural heritage professionals in managing disasters, preparing for emergencies, and communicating effectively during crises. It offers practical strategies to safeguard cultural heritage, particularly in conflict-prone areas, with an emphasis on disaster response, community engagement, and crisis communication.

The course will focus on five key topics:

  • Disaster Risk Management and Emergency Preparedness
  • Emergency Evacuation Procedures
  • Documentation and Restoration Techniques
  • People-Centered First Aid for Cultural Heritage
  • Crisis Communication

Facilitators: The sessions will be led by experts from: ICOM Europe, Blue Shield France, Blue Shield Georgia, Istituto Centrale per il Restauro (ICR), ICOM Italy – Working Group on Prevention, Security, and Emergency for Cultural Heritage

Participants:
A total of 22 specialists from Georgian museums and cultural heritage institutions will be selected to participate. Through seminars, hands-on sessions, and experience sharing, participants will enhance their skills in safeguarding and preserving cultural heritage during crises.

Support for Regional Participants:
Selected participants from regions outside Tbilisi will have their travel and accommodation expenses reimbursed.

Registration:
Interested candidates must complete and submit the registration form no later than 21 November.

Additional Information:

  • Participants will receive certificates upon completing the course.
  • Following the training, participants are invited to attend an international conference on 28-29 November, dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the 1954 Hague Convention for the Protection of Cultural Property in the Event of Armed Conflict.
    The conference will present innovative approaches and international experiences in cultural heritage protection, including outcomes of the training course, with contributions from the beneficiaries.
