Europa Nostra and ELLINIKI ETAIRIA – Society for the Environment and Cultural Heritage are thrilled to announce the third edition of the Costa Carras European Citizens Awards, honoring exceptional efforts to safeguard endangered cultural and natural heritage across Europe.

About the Awards

The Costa Carras European Citizens Awards celebrate the legacy of Costa Carras (1938-2022), a visionary conservationist and passionate advocate for European heritage. These awards recognize individuals, groups, or civil society organizations in Europe that have successfully mobilized public action to protect endangered heritage.

Award Prizes

  • Golden Award: €10,000 and a certificate.
  • Silver Award: €5,000 and a certificate.

Eligibility and How to Apply

The awards are open to citizens, groups, or organizations from any Member State of the Council of Europe (47 countries). Applications must detail a successful campaign to save endangered heritage in their country or another European nation.

Award Ceremony

The winners will be announced and celebrated during the Delphi Economic Forum 2025 (9-12 April 2025) in the historic city of Delphi, Greece.

Past Winners

  • 2023: Romanian NGO ARA – Architecture. Restoration. Archeology for their campaign to protect Roșia Montană in Romania.
  • 2024: Stéphane Bern, renowned heritage advocate, received the Golden Award, while the Silver Award went jointly to Archilochos – Cultural Association of Paros (Greece) and Haydarpaşa Solidarity for Society, City and Environment (Turkey).

The Costa Carras European Citizens Awards were launched in 2023 by Europa Nostra and ELLINIKI ETAIRIA, with support from the A.G. Leventis Foundation, the Delphi Economic Forum, and the European Investment Bank Institute.
