ICOM Europe 2024 Training Course Begins in Tbilisi! Training

From 25-27 November 2024, Tbilisi will host the ICOM Europe 2024 Training Course titled:
“Heritage Resilience: Safeguarding Cultural Legacy in Crisis Zones.”

The training course will involve representatives from museum and heritage institutions in Tbilisi and various regions of Georgia, as well as members of the National Guard of Georgia.
The course aims to enhance the knowledge and skills of museum and heritage professionals in crisis management, emergency preparedness, and effective communication during crises.

Participants will learn practical strategies for safeguarding cultural heritage, with a particular focus on crisis response, strengthening community collaboration, and improving communication during emergencies.

  • Disaster risk management and preparedness for emergencies
  • Emergency evacuation procedures
  • Documentation and restoration methods
  • People-centered first aid for cultural heritage during crises
  • Crisis communication strategies

Training Outcomes

The results and key takeaways from the training will be summarized and presented at the international conference held on 28-29 November as part of this project. This course will contribute to the development of innovative approaches to safeguarding cultural heritage and strengthen international cooperation among professionals.


The ICOM Europe 2024 training course is part of a project funded under the ICOM SAREC Grant Program. The course is organized by the ICOM Europe Regional Alliance and ICOM Georgia, in collaboration with ICOM International and National Committees, including ICOM DRMC, ICOM MPR, ICOM France, ICOM Austria, ICOM Belgium, and ICOM Italy;  Blue Shield France, Blue Shield Georgia, Istituto Centrale per il Restauro (ICR), Opificio delle Pietre Dure, and with the support of the Tbilisi Museums Union.
